Scholarships

The Masconomet Music Parents Association awards scholarships to students currently in grades 7-12.
These awards are based on merit rather than financial need, as a way of recognizing and rewarding students for the quality of their musical work.

To qualify for this year’s awards, applications must be received by April 1st,  2010 to the MMPA at PO Box 95, Topsfield, MA 01983.

Financial Information

Each year the MMPA runs several fundraising events that generate between $10,000 and $15,000 in profits.  We are an all-volunteer organization, so every dollar we raise in excess of our costs goes toward the music program for the benefit of the students.

Depending on the amount raised each year, between $6,000 and $12,000 in scholarship money is awarded to students to apply to music education.  This includes paying for private lessons, music camp, or other music programs.  In addition, over the past three years more than $7,000 was allocated to support the Middle School Jazz Band, one of our after-school supplemental programs. In 2006 a donation of $500 to the Organ Fund helped make Masconomet one of the only public high schools in the county with a working pipe organ.  We also help make music field trips possible by paying for busses and providing chaperones.

As the parent of a music student, you are automatically a member in the Masconomet Music Parents Association.  If you are interested in the Association’s activities or its finances, please consider attending our monthly meetings and help set the direction for the organization.
